A programme that gives you a broad base across humanities, social sciences, languages, arts, management, computers, and culture. It’s designed for students who want flexibility to explore many subjects before choosing a specific degree. This pathway helps you build communication skills, critical thinking, and adaptability.
Many Students Choose Liberal Arts Because:
- They like variety — not having to specialise too early; can try creative, analytical, linguistic, and cultural subjects.
- It helps build communication, presentation, and analytical skills which are useful in many fields.
- Offers flexibility: after foundation, you can go into degrees in arts, humanities, media, communication, or social sciences.
- The programme often includes interactive and small-group learning, making it more engaging.
Some Students Do Not Choose Liberal Arts Because:
- The content is broad, which means less depth in any one subject compared to a focused foundation like Business, Engineering, or IT.
- It involves lots of reading, writing, discussion, and sometimes theory — may be less appealing if you prefer hands-on or technical work.
- Some roles or degrees prefer more specialised academic preparation (e.g. for STEM or professional practice).
Lifestyle During Study:
- Expect lectures, tutorials, group discussions, multimedia workshops, communication assignments, and some creative modules (like media or art).
- Mix of coursework and exams, but many creative tasks, presentations, and projects.
- Intakes generally at multiple times during the year (e.g. January, May, September), depending on the university.
- Campus-based full-time commitment, with some emphasis on soft skills, digital literacy, and critical thinking.
After Graduation:
- You can move into bachelor’s degrees in fields like Communication, English, Psychology, Media Studies, Education, Social Sciences, Arts & Culture.
- Graduates are often better prepared in writing, research, presenting, working in groups, and adapting to different subjects.
- Having a broad foundation gives you options; you can shift degree paths more easily if you change your mind.
What is Hard:
- Managing many different types of assignments — essays, presentations, creative work, discussions, etc.
- Sustaining motivation when some modules are more theory-based or require lots of reading.
- Keeping up with communication & academic writing standards.
What is Easy:
- Creative and discussion-based modules tend to be more engaging and fun.
- If you like reading, storytelling, writing, or arts, you’ll find many parts of the programme enjoyable.
- Small class sizes and interactive learning make it easier to ask questions and get help.
Fun Fact:
The Liberal Arts programme often includes unusual classes like Introduction to Sociology, Multimedia & Web Design, Languages & Culture, or even Music or Photography — so you get a taste of many creative subjects before specialising.
This is for you if you like:
- Reading, writing, storytelling, exploring cultures
