The Foundation in Allied Science (also known as Allied Health Sciences) is a one-year pre-university draw designed to prepare students for allied health-related undergraduate degree programs. It builds core understanding in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and introduces health-focused subjects like anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and professional ethics

Many Students Choose Allied Science Because:

  • Clear Pathway to Health Degrees: Direct entry to health-related bachelor's programs.
  • Hands-On Learning: Includes labs and practicals like biology, chemistry, and anatomy.
  • Interdisciplinary Exposure: Combines science with healthcare and IT skills.
  • Meaningful Careers: Supports roles in physiotherapy, biomedical engineering, nursing and more.

Some Students Do Not Choose Allied Science Because:

  • Science-Heavy Curriculum: Needs a solid foundation in maths, physics, biology, and chemistry.
  • Lab Commitment: Requires many extended lab and practical sessions.
  • Focused Direction: Less flexibility to switch to non-health streams afterwards.

Lifestyle During Study:

  • Intensive Classes & Labs: Students spend lots of time in labs and dedicated theory classes.
  • Skill Sessions: Include critical thinking, academic communication, and computing essentials.
  • Language & National Studies: Malay, English, and Islamic/Moral studies are also part of the syllabus.
  • Structured Semesters: Three-semester structure with local intakes in March, July, and October.

After Graduation:

  • Seamless Progression: Move directly into bachelor’s programs within the same institution.
  • Career Readiness: Prepared for entry-level roles in allied health and medical fields.
  • Specialisation Options: Fields include psychology, biomedical tech, nursing, physio, dietetics and safety & health.

What is Hard:

  • Complex Lab Concepts: Anatomy, physiology, organic chemistry, and detailed scientific principles.
  • Academic Load: High volume of coursework, lab reports, and theory.
  • Time Management: Balancing theory, labs, and practical assessments.

What is Easy:

  • Structured Learning Environment: Clear modules, lab schedules, and study support.
  • Foundation Knowledge: Instead of starting a bachelor’s with heavy content, this year preps you.
  • Peer Support: Collaborative labs and projects ease the learning curve.

Fun Fact:

"In one year, you'll learn enough anatomy to impress your family—like what makes up a muscle or how your heart works!"

This is for you if you like:

  • Biology, chemistry, physics
  • Doing labs and hands-on experiments
  • Working in teams
  • Practical science applied to helping people

  • Physiotherapist
  • Biomedical Engineering Technologist
  • Occupational Safety & Health Officer
  • Nurse
  • Dietitian
  • Medical Lab Technologist
  • Psychology Practitioner
  • Health & Safety Consultant
  • Further studies in built-in allied health degrees

Relevant Certifications to Consider:

  • Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Hons)
  • Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering Technology (Hons)
