A technical program that focuses on the science and technology of measuring land and mapping the Earth’s surface. You learn about geospatial science, cartography, global positioning systems (GPS), remote sensing, and computer-aided design (CAD). It equips graduates to work in construction, mapping, real estate development, and infrastructure projects.
Many students choose Diploma in Land Surveying because:
- Land surveyors are in demand in engineering, construction, and property sectors.
- Offers both outdoor fieldwork and office-based data analysis.
- Provides opportunities to work on major infrastructure and urban development projects.
Some students do not choose Diploma in Land Surveying because:
- Requires outdoor work in various weather conditions and terrains.
- Involves technical precision and the use of specialized instruments.
Lifestyle During Study:
- Fieldwork using total stations, GPS systems, and leveling equipment.
- Coursework in geomatics, engineering surveying, photogrammetry, and GIS (Geographic Information Systems).
- Practical assignments in mapping and data collection.
After Graduation:
- Employment in surveying firms, construction companies, and government land departments.
- Opportunities in GIS, mapping, and infrastructure planning.
- Pathway to bachelor’s degrees in Geomatics or Surveying Science.
What is Hard:
- Performing highly accurate measurements and data processing in the field.
What is Easy:
- Using surveying instruments effectively after consistent practice.
Fun Fact:
“Land surveyors literally shape the world — every road, bridge, and building begins with their measurements.”
This is for you if you like:
- Working outdoors and exploring different terrains
- Using high-tech equipment and mapping tools
- Engineering and design projects
- Geography, mathematics, and spatial data
- Precision and problem-solving
Career Opportunities:
- Land Survey Technician
- Geomatics Assistant
- GIS Technician
- Construction Site Surveyor
- Mapping and Cartography Assistant
- Property Development Survey Assistant
Relevant Certifications to Consider:
- Licensed Land Surveyor (with further study and registration under JUPEM)
- GIS and Remote Sensing Certification
- AutoCAD Civil 3D Training
- Drone Mapping and Photogrammetry Certification
